What's our favorite thing about working at Lee's Summit Honda? For many of us, it's serving the amazing community of Lee's Summit, Missouri. This little town had humble beginnings and continues to be an understated treasure tucked away in the Midwest.

History of Lee's Summit

Lee's Summit started as the tiny town of Strother, which consisted of 11 blocks next to the Missouri Pacific Railroad tracks. Today these 11 blocks make up the downtown business district where events like the Downtown Lee's Summit Farmers Market take place.

The town was founded by a man named William B. Howard who was attracted to the rolling plains and beautiful scenery of the area. At the time of its incorporation, the town-then still known as Strother-had around 100 residents. In 1868, the name was changed to "The Town of Lee's Summit." The "Summit" portion of the name referred to the town being the highest point on the railroad, but the name "Lee" has its own series of rumored sources. Some say it was named after Civil War General Robert E. Lee, while others suggest that the name came from Dr. Pleasant Lea, an early settler in the area.
