2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout

The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.

In eastern Jackson County, the Passport trim question is mostly about the lake and the gravel roads between. Every trim tows 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. The TrailSport adds the hitch and tires for weekends at Truman Lake.

Which trim is the best value?
For most eastern Jackson County buyers, the TrailSport. Its $4,800 premium over the RT-L includes a hitch (a $700 option on the RT-L), all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch, a moonroof and a heated wheel.
Is AWD standard?
Yes. Every 2027 Passport has i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive with Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes.
How much can each trim tow?
All six are rated at 5,000 lbs. The RT-L Towing and both TrailSports include a factory Class III hitch; the RT-L needs one added.
Best Passport for eastern Jackson County?
On pavement, including the roads around Longview Lake, the RT-L does everything you need. For gravel county roads out toward Truman Lake, step up to the TrailSport, and add the Elite for ventilated seats and Bose audio.
Is Blackout worth $1,500?
Only for the look: black 18-inch wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Equipment doesn't change.
What's new for 2027?
TrailSport trims sit higher (9.6 in. of clearance), get amber hood lights and a resculpted front, and the TrailSport now gets TrailWatch and a heated wheel.

Trade-offs

What You Give Up When You Move Up

Upgrades come with a few trade-offs. Here they are, up front.

RT-L to TrailSport

  • Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
  • Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
  • Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
  • Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
  • Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
  • Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
  • Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
  • Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.

TrailSport to TrailSport Elite

  • Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
  • The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
  • Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.

Standard to Blackout

  • The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
  • $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
New this year

2027 Passport Changes

A taller TrailSport

TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.

A new TrailSport face

Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.

Elite features move down

The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.

Darker Blackout

Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.

New paint

Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl across the lineup.

Higher prices

MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.

Matchups

Passport Trim vs. Trim

RT-L vs. RT-L Towing

RT-L $45,195 vs. RT-L Towing $45,895

For $700, the RT-L Towing adds a factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel, nothing else. If you'll ever haul a trailer to Longview Lake and Truman Lake, it's the version to get.

RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport

RT-L Towing $45,895 vs. TrailSport $49,995

$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.

TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport $49,995 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

Same trail hardware, $3,700 apart. The Elite's case is comfort: ventilated fronts, heated rears, perforated leather, Bose, a hands-free liftgate and automatic wipers.

TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport Blackout $51,495 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?

TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout

TrailSport Elite $53,695 vs. TrailSport Elite Blackout $55,195

$1,500 for black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. The equipment list is otherwise identical, so this is purely about the look.

2027 Passport Size: Will It Fit Your Life?

At 191.5 inches long the Passport fits a standard eastern Jackson County garage or driveway, and the TrailSport's 74.5-inch height still clears a 7-foot garage door. Add a roof box or bike rack and you'll want to measure first.

What to Check on a Lee's Summit Passport Test Drive

Book back-to-back drives and use these to compare trims on roads you actually drive.

  1. Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
  2. Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in during the drive so you're testing your own apps.
  3. Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
  4. On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
  5. Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
  6. Merge onto I-470 or US-50 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
  7. Check your garage: the TrailSport is 74.5 in. tall, 1.4 in. taller than the RT-L.
  8. Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
  9. If you can, take both trims toward the roads around Longview Lake. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.

How many 2027 Honda Passport trims are there?

Three trims, RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, plus three factory versions built on them: RT-L Towing, TrailSport Blackout and TrailSport Elite Blackout.

How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?

MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.

What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?

The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.

What does the TrailSport Elite add over the TrailSport?

Perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a 700-watt 12-speaker Bose system, second-row climate controls, a hands-free power liftgate with walk away close, rain-sensing wipers, rear-door sunshades and acoustic front-door glass. It costs $3,700 more, and the off-road hardware is the same.

What does the RT-L Towing add?

A factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 over the RT-L. Nothing else changes.

Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?

Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.

Which 2027 Passport trim is best for eastern Jackson County?

For paved drives like the roads around Longview Lake, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For gravel county roads out toward Truman Lake, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.
